6th Annual Father Daughter Dance in Sutter Creek - Sat Feb 17

It’s time to create some special memories that Dad’s, Granddads, Uncles, and Special Friends can enjoy with their favorite little girls. The “Father Daughter Dance” in Sutter Creek is a magical evening just for both of you, dressed in your finest outfits and dancing the night away to all the music that kids love. On Saturday, February 17, from 6pm to 8pm, the Sutter Creek Auditorium at 18 Main Street will transform into a magical room filled with beautiful decorations, games and surprises to make the evening festive. Dads, there will also be fun games for you too! There will be a DJ spinning all the favorite tunes that will get you out on the dance floor to dance the night away.  Save room for the incredible, edible Desert Buffet, with tasty homemade treats and before your evening is over, be sure and visit our photo booth for a keepsake picture.

Love A Fair Ball - Sat Feb 17

PLYMOUTH, CA - It’s the perfect Valentine’s date night -- the Love A Fair Ball!  The tenth annual Love A Fair Ball will be held Saturday, February 17, 2018 at the Grand Oak Ballroom, Jackson Rancheria Casino Resort.
The Love A Fair Ball includes an elegant steak and lobster tail dinner, special Valentine favors, fabulous benefit auction and dancing with friends to Darin Sexton & Highway 49 -- all to support the Amador County Fair Foundation.
Many projects are planned or are underway at the Fairgrounds -– for the Amador County Fair, and for year-round events that provide additional revenue and showcase Amador County and culture.Tax deductible contributions from the community allow the Amador County Fair Foundation to maintain and improve the facilities for the enjoyment of visitors, our community and future generations.

Master Gardeners Present: Grafting Fruit Trees - Sat Feb 10

Interested in improving the quality and variety in your backyard orchard? Join the UCCE Master Gardeners of Amador County on Saturday, February 10, 2018 for this timely class on grafting backyard fruit trees.

Local Master Gardeners will present a hands-on clinic covering grafting techniques for home gardeners. Whip, tongue and cleft grafts will be demonstrated and practiced. Bud grafts will also be discussed. Learn how to grow a fruit salad tree. A variety of fruit tree scions will also be available for participants to take home.

Handouts will be available. The class is free and open to the public. No reservations are required. All classes are held in the GSA building at 12200-B Airport Rd. in Jackson from 9am to Noon.

Do you know how you can best prepare for your springtime garden? By attending our “Plant Propagation” class where you will learn the best practices for getting your vegetables off to a successful start!

This Public Education class is presented by the UCCE Master Gardeners of Amador County on Saturday, February 24, 2018. Basic principles and general techniques of propagation including seed starting, division, and taking cuttings will be discussed, demonstrated and practiced. Bring seeds or cuttings (keep cuttings damp) for a plant you wish to start. Some seeds and cuttings as well as hand-outs will be available.

New to gardening in the foothills? Or are you interested in trying something different in your home garden and landscape? Home gardening in the local foothills can be challenging. Pick up great tips on meeting those garden challenges at the Public Education class, “Introduction to Gardening in the Foothills” presented by the UCCE Master Gardeners of Amador County on Saturday, January 20, 2018.

Information and methods of assessing your growing area, proper plant selection as well as proper planting techniques will be discussed and demonstrated. Handouts will be available.

Master Gardeners Present: Selection and Care of Roses, Flowering Trees and Shrubs - Sat Jan 27

Roses, flowering trees and shrubs are popular in local home landscapes and gardens. If you have questions about which ones to choose and how to successfully care for these colorful ornamentals, plan on attending the UCCE Master Gardeners of Amador County Public Education class “Selection and Care of Roses, Flowering Trees and Shrubs” on Saturday, January 27, 2018. Master Gardeners at this class will discuss various ornamental trees and shrubs that grow throughout Amador County, and the seasons in which they bloom. Proper timing, planting and pruning methods, will be covered, as they vary with plant type.  

This class will also include detailed information about the most popular types of roses which can be grown in a landscape or garden setting in Amador County (Grandiflora, Hybrid Tea, Floribunda, Polyantha, Climbing, and Antique). We will also discuss how to best care for your roses throughout the year, including planting, irrigating, fertilizing, and pruning. Common diseases and pests of roses, and how to manage them with IPM, Integrated Pest Management strategies will be included. The class will include a rose pruning demonstration as well as a free raffle for the newly pruned specimen.
