Story Savers Workshop - Mon May 13

There will be a Story Savers Workshop on Monday, May 13th:
Story Savers       "preserving the significant memories of ordinary people"

This five hour workshop includes morning and afternoon sessions devoted to collecting and preserving memories (yours or those of someone you love.)  The sessions will cover: how to inspire story telling, verbal interview questions, photograph reviews, satisfaction charts, and how to gather family material.  There will be information segments as well as interactive practice sessions.  We'll close the day by looking at different ways to preserve memories (booklets, tape recordings, DVD presentations.)  For those who are working on their memoirs, there's an extra 25 page packet of information (let me know when registering if you'll be interested in that material.)  It'll be a full day of fun and practical information.

The Workshop will be held on Monday, May 13th
From 9:30 - 3:00 PM
At the Senior Center (229 New York Ranch Road)

Facilitator: Bonnie Evans

The $20 fee includes:
Five hours of instruction and a 100 page workbook written by the facilitator
Introduction of interview styles and formats (question prompts, photograph reviews, etc.)
Workshop time to practice the techniques
How to compile family history even if primary sources are no longer living
How to transform collected memories into a permanent document
        Free raffle (Memory Jar)
        Snacks and drinks

This workshop is only offered once a year and space is limited, please reserve a place for yourself if you'd like to attend

If you've taken the workshop in the last two years and have a current workbook, you're welcome to attend for a $10 donation.
And as is true with all of my workshops, if financial issues are troublesome but you'd like to attend, give me a call and we'll work something out.

Thanks,
bonnie evans

My background:  I completed my graduate work in Cultural Anthropology from San Jose State by conducting research and writing my thesis on the different ways people preserve their memories (2002).  Since then, I have conducted 23 life reviews of terminally ill people and transformed their memories into keepsake booklets.  I've also compiled 6 family historical booklets by gathering information from living members, correspondence, journals, diaries, photographs, and internet research.  Another of my fun projects included documenting the history of the Amador Senior Center, "In Full Bloom."   It is currently being published and used as a fundraiser for the Senior Center.  I'm now interviewing Amadorians for the Amador County Living History Project--a great project dedicated to preserving local history.
